The Alexandra Timber Tramway is a 2 hour drive north-east of Melbourne along the scenic Maroondah Highway via Healesville or, if you prefer, the equally scenic alternative Melba Highway, via Yarra Glen and Yea. A slightly longer but very scenic trip can be had via Warburton using either the Acheron Way (gravel) or Reefton Spur (bitumen) roads via Marysville. Stop off and enjoy one of the many wineries in the district or treat the kids to a picnic in the forest at one of the well-maintained picnic grounds along any of these routes.
The Timber Tramway is located in Station Street, the last street on the eastern side of the town. Best access from the main street is via either Bon or Vickery Streets. The site is also accessible from Downey Street, just past the Mobil service station.
A large car park is located on the northern side of the ATT and there are excellent electric BBQ and toilet facilities available on site.
The only public transport from Melbourne to Alexandra is provided by McKenzie’s Tourist Services (www.mckenzies.com.au) for details.
