‘Easter Steam Festival’ and the ‘Steam & Wood Gala’ Weekends

The ATT runs two special events throughout the year. The Steam Festival, held over the Easter long weekend, and the Steam and Wood Gala weekend, on the second Sunday in October, is the ATT’s opportunity to showcase a magnificent range of oil and fuel fired engines.

These displays are complimented by the woodturning magic of the Eildon & District Woodturner’s Guild. The Alexandra Timber Tramway adds to the engine displays with steam train rides and parades a vast range of steam and conventional powered engines and rolling stock that will take you back to the turn of the twentieth century.

Centenary celebrations, Sunday 25 October 2009

The Alexandra Timber Tramway’s role as one of the leading tourism drawcards in this region was well and truly realised on the 25 October 2009 when we staged the Centenary of Rail with outstanding results.  The local community responded with force and we saw more people come through our gates than ever before.

A highlight was a presentation to the Centenary of Rail event by the Murrindindi Shire Council in recognition of the Alexandra Timber Tramway’s invaluable contribution to the community - another endorsement of our standing within the local tourist community. 

We had a great showing of engines from the Yarra Valley and Benalla clubs as well as some fabulous displays from the Eildon Woodturner’s Guild.  The Steam and Wood Gala weekend is now destined for a new approach with added displays.

The weekend could not have been possible without the assistance from the Murrindindi Shire Council Community Grant Fund and Regional Development Victoria.  The local business sponsorship support is also deeply appreciated.  Then there are the real contributors - the volunteers from the ATT, the Eildon Woodturners Guild and the Rotary Club of Alexandra who have dug deep over the last 12 months to make this day happen.
